Ask it a question. Shake it. Turn it over. Stare into the inky blue window and wait for fate to surface one of its twenty answers. The Magic 8-Ball has been a staple of toy stores, offices, and slightly indecisive people since 1950 — but what is actually going on inside?
Spoiler: it's a twenty-sided die floating in blue alcohol inside a hollow plastic sphere. The engineering is elegant, the probability is ruthlessly equal (one in twenty for each answer), and the whole thing is a surprisingly tidy model for thinking about random number generation, arrays, and conditional output — exactly what our Magic 8-Ball app is built around.
