About this experiment — what are we doing?
Three colored floor-lights sit at the corners of a triangle on the dance floor. A mathematician stands somewhere in the middle.
Here’s the only rule: roll a six-sided die. The number you roll tells you which light just blinked. Touch that light, and the mathematician moves exactly halfway between their current position and the blinking light. The floor lights up at their new spot — in the color of the blinking light.
After many rolls, the dance floor fills up with colored dots. Where do you think they’ll land? A random smear? Stripes? An even spread? Something else entirely? Make your prediction — then start rolling and find out.
Red light — rolls 1–2 • Green light — rolls 3–4 • Blue light — rolls 5–6
To begin: Click Place Dancer or click anywhere on the dance floor to set the starting position. Then roll the die for each step!
