Moniker Magic allows you to generate a list of random English first names based on your preferences. Simply specify the number of names you'd like to generate and the percentage of male names. Click "Generate Names" to see the results. You can also add custom prefixes for more personalized names!
About the generation
Copilot analyzed common English male and female names for typical lengths, prefixes and suffixes. To create a name, a random prefix and suffix were chosen from the database. Based on those choices and an acceptable length, random letters, chosen by English letter frequencies, filled in the middle of the name.
To be valid, an name had to meet several criteria, including:
- It had to be a certain length
- It had to start with a valid prefix and end with a valid suffix
- It had to be unique
- It could have no more than 3 consecutive vowels or consonants
- It could not contain any unlikely sequences of letters such as 'xq'
- It could not contain any obscenities
Names that did not meet these criteria were rejected and are listed in the "Rejected Names" table.
Final selections were sorted alphabetically and (loosely) by length in two gender-specific tables. Column headings were customized for each table based on the data in the column.
When asked for potential uses for this app, Copilot responded and created a popup 'modal' with creative suggestions. Thanks, Copilot!
