SketchWave Kite Demo

SWKite is defined by a center SWPoint, a horizontal half-diagonal (diagX), an upper half-diagonal (diagTop), and a lower half-diagonal (diagBottom). It is drawn using p5's quad() function inside a push()/translate()/rotate()/pop() block.

Key Properties

• area — diagX × (diagTop + diagBottom)
• perimeter — 2 × (topSideLength + bottomSideLength)
• topSideLength — √(diagX² + diagTop²) (two upper sides)
• bottomSideLength — √(diagX² + diagBottom²) (two lower sides)
• isRhombus — true when diagTop ≈ diagBottom (within 1%)

Breathing Modes

• Uniform — diagX and both vertical diagonals pulse together
• Horizontal — only diagX breathes; verticals stay constant
• Vertical — only diagTop/Bottom breathe (proportionally, preserving asymmetry)
• Independent X/Y — separate sinusoids for horizontal and vertical

How to Use This Demo

• Diag X / Top / Bottom Sliders: Independently control the three half-diagonals.
• Vertices Toggle (V): Show the four kite tip points as blue dots.
• Breathing: Click "Start Breathing" or press B.
• Spinning: Click "Start Spinning" or press S. Negative rate = CCW.
• Drag Center: When animations are paused, drag the kite center to reposition it.
• Trail (Center): Increase the trail slider to draw a path behind the center point.
• isRhombus: Set diagTop = diagBottom to see the kite degenerate into a rhombus.
• Keyboard: B breathe, S spin, C center, V vertices, G grid, R reset, Q quit.
